“Picture Me Reading Favorite Bible Stories!” is now available!
It has been successfully tested in an after-school “reading rescue” program for children, from kindergarten to grade 3, experiencing reading difficulties. They were referred by parents and teachers. The classes were held three times a week for six weeks. About 1/3 of the 63 page storybook was completed during that time and the children’s average pre- to post-test growth in reading achievement was found to be at least 6 MONTHS on two separate tests of reading ability after the 6 WEEKS of classes ended.

“Picture Me Reading Favorite Bible Stories!” introduces children to Old Testament Biblical figures from Adam and Eve to David. The text was written by Marlys Isaacson, Ph.D., and illustrations were provided by 12-year-old Audrey Isaacson. The overall readability level of the book was determined by use of the Spache Readability Formula to be 2.2. However, the unique way of beginning with mostly Dolch Sight Words, to be taught by using “Picture Me Reading Dolch Sight Words!” flash cards, and progressing to include more and more non-Dolch words and optional phonics activities with each lesson, ensures that the most inexperienced beginners can master each lesson successfully from the beginning and go on to complete the book. At completion of the 63 lessons, it is expected that the skills will have transferred so that readers will be competent to read most material at the beginning third grade level. Storybook = $13 (Buy Now)
A Classroom Teacher's Manual provides explicit and comprehensive directions and materials for each lesson (generally one page of story text equals one lesson). Games, activities, and crafts not dependent upon the use of paper and pencil tasks or photocopied seatwork are provided, to allow all children to experience success without onerous “homework.” The teacher is spared the “busywork” of extensive preparations, photocopying, and grading. This manual is ideal for the use of parochial schools, after school “reading rescue” groups, and summer Bible School programs, among other things. Classroom Teacher’s Manual = $15.00 (Free when 10 or more storybooks and a set of large-size Dolch Word Flash Cards are purchased). (Buy Now)
There is an alternative short Manual For Teaching One-on-One for parents or 1-1 tutors. Like the teacher’s manual, it contains clear directions for effective teaching of the text by using the “Picture Me Reading Dolch Sight Words” flash cards. Optional phonics activities covering the basic phonics generalizations generally taught in the primary grades are provided for each of the 63lessons, as well as games to reinforce the sight word knowledge. Manual For Teaching One-on-One (in Manila 3-hole Folder) = $5 (Buy Now)
